An order is an offer, and our confirmation is the acceptance
Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract forms when we email you to say the order has been accepted— which happens when it is dispatched, not when the payment is taken. The acknowledgement email sent at checkout is not acceptance.
This matters in one circumstance: if an item turns out to be unavailable, or its price was shown wrongly, we may decline the order. If we do, any amount already charged is refunded in full, and no contract exists.
Prices

Risk and ownership
Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery to the address you gave. Ownership passes when we have received payment in full.

If something goes wrong with the goods
